Before you practice any of the dog massage techniques, the first thing you should do is find a quiet place for you and dog. A room away from other animals or children is best. If you find that there is noise in the background that is upsetting to the dog and have no way of stopping it, try putting on some soft background music.
The best way to start is to sit on the floor and have your dog sit in front of you. Put your hands on the back of their neck and slowly start massaging the loose skin and muscles. Work your way up to the back of their head and down again. If their head is lowered, you will find they are liking it.
Once your dog has warmed up the idea of your massaging him, go down their back and on to their legs. During the whole time you are massaging them, you should also be speaking to them in a gentle tone. Not sure of what to say? Telling them what a good dog they are is always a great place to start.

In the meantime, however, plan on spending at least 20 minutes a day with your dog and you will soon find yourself enjoying the benefits of a much calmer dog.
